What Kind of Questions are Asked on the Insurance Application?
When you are getting ready to apply for your new term life insurance policy, then you are going to need to be prepared. There are a lot of questions that come with the routine of filing for life insurance. Everything from whether you have ever smoked, to information about your most personal details of health and finances will be vetted out from you. The questionnaire can actually be exhausting.
It will likely start with a paper and pencil or online questionnaire. In addition, you may be asked more questions from the individual who comes by to perform your paramedical exam. Such questions will include everything from detailed questions about your exercise routine in the past and present, to any past history with alcohol or cigarettes. If you take any medications on a regular basis, then you will have to provide additional details about your condition and what you take.
Medical and Other Questions
When the paramedical professional comes to your home to do the exam, then they will be asking many questions. They will even be requiring information about your regular physician, nurse practitioner, and other medical professionals. In addition to asking you about legal pharmaceuticals, they will also want to know about any illicit drug habits, or even any herbal or non-prescription medications that you take on a regular basis as well.
They will also inquire about any resent changes in your health. Such questions as whether you have been losing weight over the past six months or year may indicate problems. If you have an unrecognized tumor or cancer, weight loss may point to the development of such a big health problem.
Thus, if you have changed your life, and are on a deliberate weight loss program that involves exercise and improved eating, let the paramedical professional know. Otherwise, if you just answer "yes" to losing weight over the past six months to one year, it may inadvertently flag your application. Instead, be on top of such questions and their implication, and answer questions pre-emptively.
History Points to Future
In the case of insurance carriers, your personal medical history and troubles (such as disease and addictions) can point to future problems. If you have a past that involves some risky behaviors that could potentially kill you prematurely, the insurance carrier will have to pay on the policy. If you have had a lifetime of fighting an addiction that could kill you, then you may have difficulty getting a policy. That is why they ask so many questions. In many other cases, if you have gotten this far in the application process, then it they are likely to increase the rates.
Thus, just because you have had a history with fighting cancer or diabetes does not necessarily mean that you will be unable to get a term life insurance policy. Instead, it can result in you having to find insurance carriers that will work with people who have your own pre-existing conditions. You will have to weigh the insurance carriers and their offers to you.
There are many kinds of questions that you will be asked in your insurance application. You may feel disappointed and surprised with the offers that ensue once you have completed the application process, and the paramedical exam. This can also result in denials of coverage all together. It is important that you do not focus on the companies that are charging more than you can afford, and also those companies that deny you coverage. Take your time and be patient. Only accept a policy that works for you.
