How Can I Spend More Time with my Spouse?
It is not unusual to feel as though it can be a problem finding time to spend with the ones you love. Even though you live in the same house work schedules and caring for children can take up so much time you barely see enough of your own partner each day. When going through a regular work week routine it can be very easy to get so caught up in all the things that need to be done you wind up feeling time slipping away from you.
Time can go by very quickly. You will not want to turn around only to find another ten years have gone by and you are wondering what you did with them. You cannot stop time, but you can manage it. When you apply time management skills to your relationships, you can take better control over what you do with the precious time you have with your loved ones like going for a daily family walk.
Sometimes, a relationship with a spouse is the easiest one to let slip. After all, you each see each other daily in between getting to and from work or taking care of your children. However, if you feel that you have been letting more and more of this happen with less and less time spent together there is something you can do about it.
Making Time for Each Other
First, you want to begin scheduling your day as a family if you have not been doing this already. You can simply make use of a large wall calendar on which you jot down appointments, extracurricular events, and so on. Make sure each family member's schedule is included. This allows you to see just where time is going each week. Even if you and your spouse have busy work schedules, you most likely will see you have some time to spare once you factor in all family activities for the week.
These spare moments can become blocks of time to schedule into each week's schedule. You may want to highlight them or literally block free time out with a pen on days or weekends where you can find them. This is the first step to being able to set aside certain times and days during each week where you make appointments with one another.
Sometimes, turning a chore such as grocery shopping into an outing requires a little creativity. But, no one said you cannot ask a neighbor or a family member to watch the children for a few hours while you and your spouse go do something as mundane as grocery shopping together. The difference would be you can arrange to stop together for a cup of coffee somewhere where you can chat or just relax for half an hour.
The grocery shopping itself might even be made more fun by choosing to do some of it at a nearby farmer's market. This way, you can both enjoy a stroll together before completing the rest of the shopping at a grocery store. You can always turn spare time together into something a little more fun such as a dinner out or even a weekend get away.
But, realizing that there is always time available to spend with your loved ones, especially your spouse, is very important. You do not want to fool yourself into thinking that you are always too busy to find time to spend together. That is never true. You may need to set some boundaries or get creative, but there are ways you can find to spend more time with your spouse.
