They simply may need a little more in the way of what assisted living facilities offer which traditional apartments or other types of housing cannot. If they needed someone to help them get to the store for groceries, they would not need to wait a day or so until you or another family member could arrange to help them.

They would have someone available at the facility to help drive them to get their groceries. This person may also be able to look in on them any time of day or night to help them if they are not feeling well or are in need of help when it comes to managing medications. It is important to talk with your loved one about the move.

Reassure your loved one by telling them they will have much the same independence at their new home as their former home. Allow them as much input in finding the ideal facility as is possible.
