Is Walking Everyday a Healthy Activity?

Walking is one of the easiest exercises to take up. You pretty much have to walk somewhere each day as it is, if you are healthy enough, so taking an activity you have to do and doing more of it can make for an easy, excuse-proof exercise regimen that can increase your heart health. Plus, the benefits to your health and well being are numerous.

Who Can Benefit from Walking

While you have to do a little bit more than walk, for example, from your car in the driveway into your home in order to truly benefit from it as exercise, you do not have to do very much. Plus, walking is a very inexpensive form of exercise which just about anyone in good health can do. Even if you have some degree of limited mobility, you may find that your doctor will approve of you taking up walking as a great form of exercise.

This is because, in order to benefit from walking, you do not have to go outside and get a mile or two in. You can walk in place. No matter how old or young you are, and no matter how nice the weather is outside or not you can take up walking in place. It only takes about ten minutes a day, a few times a week to benefit you by helping you to take in more oxygen.

This helps your lungs perform better. Plus, even by elevating your body temperature slightly by putting in a bit of walking, you help your system detoxify through perspiration. Again, you cannot expect that simply going out from the couch to the mailbox down your walkway and back again is going to be enough to count as a healthy activity. It will not hurt you, but in order to really get health benefits from walking you need to put some effort and time into doing it as regularly as possible.

While it might be that your doctor says it is fine to put thirty minutes per day into a walk for optimal heart health, you do not necessarily have to put that much time into it to see some benefits. As little as ten minutes a day a few days per week can help ease arthritis pain, for example. This is because when our bodies are put into motion when walking, just about every muscle gets moving and this keeps them from getting stiff and painful.

Your heart may not exactly suffer the same affects from not walking as other parts of your body, but it can benefit just like every part of your body from walking. The higher you elevate your blood pressure when walking, the harder your heart has to pump. This is not a bad thing. Again, as long as your doctor approves you getting more regular exercise, walking can help your heart exercise more, too. This helps keep it healthier.

Other Benefits to your Health

Walking is such an easy way to exercise that you probably already do it to some degree every day, anyway. When you make more of an effort to do it for regular amounts of time as often as possible during the week, if not every day, you give your body and even your mind a very healthy activity to benefit from. People who do more walking may find that it is easier to get to sleep at night. What is more, if you tend to worry, walking is a great way to clear your head and chase the blues away, too.
