How to Bond with Your Children

For parents who find themselves busy working a full-time job, running a household and raising children they may think, sadly, that they have little time to do much more than just get by each day by meeting that day's responsibilities. If meeting those responsibilities includes taking a child to soccer practice or dance practice a few times a week, they may feel like this is just about the only quality time they can have with their children. But, bonding with your children is something that can and should be done without having to load up the car with sports equipment.

Making the Everyday Special

You may want to do much more than you already do to spend quality time with your children. But, you may be at a loss for how to manage adding any more activities into your busy schedule, let alone theirs. You know that they will not be children forever, but you do not have much more time to start a whole new parent-child routine that will have lasting results. The good news is that you really do not have to revamp your family schedule to fit in quality bonding time.

The way in which you can do this is to make the most of things you already do. Even those things like pouring a few bowls of cereal for them before carpooling them to school on your way to work can be turned into more eventful experiences. Say you are one of those parents who tend to get up the moment your alarm goes off. That alarm is always set to the last possible minute for you to get up in order to get the kids together and get yourself to work on time.

You then start your day already in a rush. There is little time to make the most of an existing opportunity to bond with your kids. If you allow yourself to get up a little earlier each day you can make time to turn a breakfast rush hour into something much more. You probably know how important it is to provide your children healthy breakfast options.

If you turn breakfast time at your home into something of an event, you can get them to eat healthy and have a few moments to really talk to them. It does not have to be complicated, but you could choose to make something different each morning. It does not have to be hard work but you could have the kids help make their own pancakes. Let them select fresh fruits and even a few chocolate chips to embellish them with.

Allow them to make a mess. Let them have fun all the while getting a chance to interact and talk with them about what is in store for them at school that day. If the mornings really are too rushed for you to fit any type of cooking in, try to set actual dates with your kids. Pick a night, and have them pick an activity they wish to indulge in. It could be doing some arts and crafts that they pick.

It could be playing a special video game and teaching you how to play it. You want to create a special time just for you and your children where you can talk together while having fun. Try to avoid making it a movie night, so you have a way to interact with them. Let the kids participate actively in choosing which activity they most want to do for date night and then you will find just how to bond with your children best.
