Asking an Agent About the Premiums in Force
For many reasons, people have a tendency to not trust insurance agents. This is because many people believe that insurance agents are just trying to take advantage of them and get their money. However, this is actually not true. Though there are some insurance agents that are out there to try and get your money from you, most of them are there to help you make good financial decisions about the coverage and policy face amounts that you are getting. Understanding the issues that people have with agents of life insurance will help you better understand why these issues are usually misconceptions and what can be done to dispel those misconceptions and make good decisions about coverage.
Understanding the Misconceptions
One of the common misconceptions that people have with life insurance agents is that the claim process can take so long. When you make a claim on the life insurance that someone was supposed to leave to you, agents have to check and make sure that the individual did not forfeit any of the coverage by something that he or she did in life. For instance, if a person with life insurance did not pay a certain amount of money on the monthly payments that they were supposed to pay, a portion of the coverage might be forfeit. This is just based on the terms of the coverage. You cannot expect to get the full benefits of the coverage if the person that the benefits were supposed to cover did not fulfill his or her end of the bargain. When it is difficult to make a claim, it is just because the company is trying to determine whether or not the coverage is still valid and that the policy holder did not have any outstanding payments on the policy.
Another one of the misconceptions that people have when it comes to life insurance policy is that agents often push coverage that is not necessarily needed by the people that they are dealing with. Some people think that life insurance agents are just salesmen trying to meet their quota at your expense. Though there are agents out there that will try to meet their quota at your expense, for the most part, life insurance agents are out to help you in any way that they can. They might suggest more coverage than you need because there are more benefits that come with additional coverage. If you tell them in force that you do not want the coverage, they will back down and settle with the amount of coverage that you have agreed to purchase.
A final misconception that some people tend to have with insurance agents is that once you purchase the coverage, they are not nearly as friendly or concerned with your time. This is often because once they have sold you the coverage, they move on to getting new contracts. They might not give you the same degree of customer service because as long as you are making the payments and have the contract for the coveratge in hand, you should have all of the information that you need.
Dealing with life insurance agents can be a difficult endeavor. This is because they are salesmen that are wanting to make some money off of you, but they do so with customer service and care so that you are not left without the amount of coverage that you need. It is always important that you are asking an agent about the premiums in force so that they deal with you honestly and directly.
